Web Home Page: The main feature of this 760 ha reserve is the Keurbooms River with its steep, forested banks, and the best way to explore the river is to paddle quietly upstream in a canoe or rowing boat. Apart from the indigenous forest, there are large areas of fynbos (heath) on the plateau above the river, where Cape grysbok may be seen. In this reserve, and in the neighbouring Keurbooms River Roest Reserve to the north the visitor has a good chance of seeing bushbuck, rock dassie, baboon and vervet monkey. To date 124 bird species have been recorded, including Caspian terns (which breed on a protected sand bar near the river mouth) and such rarities as the African finfoot. Whiskey Creek, a 3 404 ha nature reserve on the east bank of the Keurbooms River, forms a natural extension to the Keurbooms reserve.
